32 bit OS: Special considerations for large image color stacking

Stacker Unlimited is also able to efficiently handle large images.  However there are limits. Computers with 32 bit OS or limited RAM may encounter “out of memory” error messages and be unable to perform some operations. There are ways to work around such memory limits.

Tips for conserving memory:

·         Process each color as a separate stack to create 3 color masters then combine the master into a color image as the 4th step. Use Utilities; Expand Color Job to use less memory to easily do this.

·         For Bayer, set [Bayer Method] = Extraction rather than Interpolation. The resulting color image is smaller but large images are commonly down-sized for display.

·         Close all viewers except the Stack viewer. The Stack viewer may also be closed if the combined image is auto-saved.

·         Use only 1 thread.

·         Set [Data Reject Min N] to a low number (1 or 2), there are usually fewer dark outliers than bright.

·         Do not set unnecessarily high [Data Reject Max N].
